Are you ready for some football? Believe it or not, preseason NFL games are happening now, with the first game of the regular football season kicking off September 7th. Are you ready to take advantage of the beautiful late summer/early fall weather and host a tailgate party from your backyard? Check out these tips for getting your outdoor space ready for football season.

Of Course, It’s All About the TV

A TV is the anchor in this outdoor living room.

Let’s face it, without a mega-sized TV, your outdoor living room is not ready for football season. And because the party is being hosted outside, the bigger the better. Place your television set under the eaves of your home’s roofline or securely attach it to a covered outdoor wall. A central location is best, especially if you plan on hosting tailgate parties for a large crowd, so there is ample room to add seating along the perimeter of the patio. When you install the TV, don’t forget about the audio. Now is the time to add outdoor speakers to amp up the excitement while the home team rushes for victory.

Plenty of Seating

A sectional sofa provides lots of seating.

The next most important feature to get your outdoor space ready for football season is the seating. Plunking a couple of folding lawn chairs in the middle of the lawn isn’t enough. With the TV as the focal point, make sure all your guests have a comfortable place to lounge while watching the gridiron action. We recommend one outdoor sofa, preferably a sectional, along with a pair of deeply cushioned lounge chairs, at minimum. Make sure there are plenty of side tables or lay out food and beverage on a buffet table. Extra points for including one or more chat height tables and set of barstools in conversational groupings.

Warmth for the Win

As the days shorten and fall officially arrives, afternoon and nighttime temps are sure to plummet. Keep you and your guests comfortable by ensuring there are plenty of outdoor patio heaters in use. Infrared heaters that tuck up under the eaves of a backyard patio provide lots of heat throughout the space. A basket of blankets in a handy location is also a great idea for providing plenty of cozy warmth. Remember that comfort is key to hosting a successful football watch party.

Outdoor Kitchen Catering

An outdoor fire table allows you to cook up a storm for guests at your barbecue. Look for accessories like this grill pan to make it easy and fun to prepare food tableside.

Another necessity to get your outdoor space ready for football season is having, at the bare minimum, a backyard barbecue grill ready and waiting to cook up a tailgate feast. Another option is using an outdoor gas fire table, where you can both enjoy mesmerizing flames and easily grill a set of kebabs or a wealth of wings. If you have enough space, go all out with a full-on outdoor kitchen equipped to handle both cold and hot dishes sure to tempt your guests. Having a handy place to provide food, buffet-style, is always a great way to host a football watching party.

Ready or not, fall is just around the corner. Now is the time to get your outdoor space ready for football season and lots of sports-centric parties on the patio.
