Choosing The Right Materials
Even though they may appear similar at first glance, selecting the right materials for your outdoor cushions is very important. We want to ensure that your cushions provide comfort and withstand the elements for years to come. Cheap covers can lead to issues such as mold, mildew, and fading, compromising the longevity and appearance of your cushions. Let’s explore the different materials and their characteristics.
Cotton Canvas, an age-old fabric, is economical and can be dyed to match your style. However, it lacks water resistance, making it prone to mold and mildew. It’s essential to treat cotton canvas cushions with a waterproof application annually. Keep in mind that cotton canvas is not chlorine safe.
Texteline, a mesh woven material made from polyester yarns coated with PVC, offers increased durability. While it can still get hot in the sun, the added strength from the yarn reduces the risk of rips and tears. Texteline cushions are waterproof but may lose color and fade over time. Avoid using bleach on texteline covers as it can degrade the PVC coating. Texteline is considered a mid-grade outdoor cushion material.
Vinyl, also known as PVC, is a cost-effective option but unsuitable for hot climates. Sitting on vinyl cushions exposed to the sun can be uncomfortable and even cause burns, similar to getting into a sun-heated car. Additionally, PVC is not recyclable, making it less environmentally friendly.
When it comes to the best and most premium option, Sunbrella Fabric takes the lead. This patented fabric utilizes solution-dyed acrylics, meaning the material itself is colored. Sunbrella cushions are fade-resistant, 100% waterproof, mold and mildew resistant, and safe for chlorine exposure. While they come at a higher price point, Sunbrella Fabric ensures unmatched durability and longevity for your outdoor cushions.
The next choice to make is the core material, or filling, of your cushions. This is important for comfort, durability, and the overall lifespan of your cushions. Do you frequently use your cushions? Does your patio see a lot of sun throughout the day? These questions and more determine what type of core material you should choose for your cushions. Here are some of the most popular selections:
Dacron, also known as Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) or by the brand name Dacron, is a durable foam padding insert that provides excellent support. Originally used in luxury beds, Dacron cushions are known for their firmness and resistance to flattening. They give cushions a tight and well-maintained appearance. Some Dacron cushions may be wrapped in a thin layer of polyester to add a touch of softness, similar to a pillow-top mattress.
On the other hand, Dacron Wrapped cushions have a layer of Dacron added to the exterior of the cushion. While they may look nice, these cushions use significantly less Dacron and can flatten out, similar to foam cushions. As a result, they may not offer the best sitting experience despite their appealing appearance.
Polyester Fill, although inexpensive and soft, lacks support and tends to flatten over time, prioritizing visual appeal over functional comfort.
Clustered Polyfill is similar to polyester fill, but the polyfill is wrapped in small bundles or formed into tiny balls, offering slightly more firmness. However, these cushions are still prone to flattening out.
Foam cushions come in various densities, making it difficult to gauge their level of support at first glance. Foam is graded based on density, and you can refer to a foam density chart for more information.
Colors and Aesthetics
When choosing your new outdoor cushions, it’s crucial to consider how they will complement your existing outdoor furniture and color scheme.
If your outdoor sofa boasts vibrant hues, selecting the perfect outdoor cushions can be a bit challenging. However, the task becomes much simpler if your outdoor furniture features neutral tones like our Wicker, Teak, and Aluminum seating options.
At Hauser’s Patio, we have carefully designed our range of outdoor throw pillows to seamlessly coordinate with the timeless gray and cream shades of our outdoor armchairs, sofas, and sectionals. With a variety of fabric colors to choose from, such as navy, sand, and charcoal, matching your outdoor cushions to your seating becomes a breeze.
Our throw pillows are crafted to effortlessly mix and match with one another, thanks to their nine pattern options and hand-sewn patchwork designs. They exude simplicity and elegance while adding a touch of sophistication to any outdoor space.
While having visually appealing outdoor pillows is important, ensuring they provide exceptional comfort is equally crucial. It’s essential to prioritize both style and functionality to maximize the benefits of your cushions. At Hauser’s Patio, our Outer throw pillows are designed with fill material that perfectly balances firmness and softness. This ensures that the pillows maintain their shape and offer a remarkably comfortable seating experience. Combining these remarkable features creates the ideal outdoor cushion—a plush interior that delivers softness and support, combined with a comfortable and long-lasting exterior.
Ease-of-Cleaning and Durability
we prioritize durability in all our products, including our throw pillows. Just like the performance fabric used in our furniture cushions, our outdoor cushions are designed to be life-proof. This means they resist stains, mold, bleach, water, UV rays, and other potential damages. They are built to withstand the test of time and remain a durable part of your outdoor furniture setup.
Cleaning our pillows is incredibly easy, thanks to the life-proof performance fabric. A simple hand wash with mild detergent can remove even stubborn stains like coffee or sauces. Additionally, our pillow covers are machine-washable for more thorough cleaning. Simply zip off the covers, wash them in the machine on a cool cycle, and let them air dry to restore your Outer pillows to their pristine condition.
It’s important to note that not all outdoor cushions available in the market have machine-washable or stain-resistant covers. Before making a purchase, be sure to check the label to avoid any disappointment when it comes time to clean your cushions.
Established in 1963, Hauser’s Patio initially operated as a prominent furniture manufacturer and retailer renowned for crafting exceptional wood and aluminum furniture. However, it was later realized that specializing in both manufacturing and retailing presented challenges. Consequently, Hauser’s strategically decided to close its manufacturing facility on Morena Boulevard in the early 1980s and shifted its focus to retail and commercial sales and service of outdoor furniture, shade, and hearth products.
Today, Hauser’s Patio excels in selling and servicing outdoor furniture, upholstery, shade solutions, and heating products. The company proudly represents numerous renowned brands in the outdoor furniture industry. Additionally, Hauser’s maintains its own manufacturing capabilities, producing two distinct collections locally in San Diego, California.
