The largest and most important part of your beach house is the outdoor living area. This is where you will likely spend most of your time. Ensure that you create seating arrangements that take full advantage of the ocean view and that furniture for your beach house is properly placed to keep that line of sight clear. For maximum comfort, opt for deeply cushioned sofas and chairs paired with side tables for convenience and a chaise lounge or two. Wheeled furniture for your beach house is ideal so it can be moved to follow the sun.

A fire pit is always a welcome addition to provide extra warmth after the sun goes down; place it right in the midst of your seating area.

If your outdoor living room will reside on a back deck or porch, be sure to measure furnishings accordingly.

Outdoor Dining Room

Small tables will usually only accommodate 2 – 4 bar stools.

Perhaps next in importance is the area where you will eat. Dining al fresco is so refreshing as a light breeze brings a whiff of saltwater and clean air. The outdoor dining room should also take advantage of the ocean view, but it can be placed off to the side of the living room. Instead of a full-size outdoor dining table, you may want to opt for bar seating with stools so everyone can face the same direction and enjoy the sight of the water and the sun dipping below the horizon.

Make sure there is enough room to place a barbecue nearby to make it easy for serving.

Furniture for Your Beach House that Takes the Weather

Think of the furniture for your beach house as an investment. It needs to be able to stand up to the extreme weather often experienced oceanside.

Salty sea air spraying outdoor furniture is a given so be sure the material your furnishings are crafted from is up to the task of handling it. Marine-grade materials are best as they are made specifically to repel moisture and resist corrosion. HDPE, polymer and cast aluminum are always good choices.

Chances are at least some of the outdoor furniture for your beach house will regularly be exposed to the sun. If you choose pieces with fabric upholstery, be sure they are made from a high-quality and all-weather performance material such as Sunbrella fabric. Before leaving your beach house to return to the city, remove and store any cushions and cover the furniture’s frames to keep them in top shape.

Finally, moisture is likely to cause an issue for the outdoor furniture for your beach house. Although wood such as teak looks great and stands up well to moisture, it requires periodic maintenance. You may want to opt for pieces made from HDPE as they easily repel water, won’t split, peel or crack and require minimal fuss.
