How to Measure Standard Style Slings
This page will guide you through the process of measuring a sling that fits in a standard sling rail. If you are not sure which rail/sling-type you have, please visit our How to Measure for Replacement Slings page to get started.
Step 1
Measure Width at the Top
Measure from the outside edge of the fabric, just before it goes into the sling rail, and 2-4" from the top.
Step 2
Measure Width at the Bottom
Measure from the outside edge of the fabric, just before it goes into the sling rail, and 2-4" from the top.
How accurate do I need to be?
The more accurate you measure, the better your slings will look when installed. It is also important to remember that if your new slings are too wide or too long, we can assist with reducing the width or length. However, if the slings are too narrow or too short, they cannot be made wider or longer later on.
Step 3
Measure Length
Measure along the sling rail from the top to the bottom. Be sure not to pull the tape measure so tight that it stretches'.
Step 4
Measure Spline
Measure the diameter of the plastic bowel (spline) that is in your existing sling.
Is Your Sling Curved?
If your sling is curved we will need a sample sling to process your order. If that applies to you, please continue to measure your sling and make sure to check the "I'm sending a sample" checkbox when ordering your slings. Please contact us if you are not sure, we're always happy to help.
Step 5
Rinse & Repeat
Easy, right? Now repeat steps 1-4 for each sling you have. Make sure you note which dimensions go to which sling.
A Few Tips...
There are many different styles of slings, chairs, and so on. This guide is meant to be a general purpose guide and is intentionally not specific a particular furniture manufacturer or style. Here are a few tips that may help you incase your sling is a little different than shown above.
- Not all sling rails are created alike. Just remember to measure from the outside edges of the fabric, just before it goes into the rail.
- When determining the spline size you currently have, keep in mind that we have spline available in 7/32", 1/4", and 5/16" diameter.
