What better way to celebrate a new year than to surround yourself with the rich new hue that is the Pantone 2023 Color of the Year: Viva Magenta. Fresh and vibrant, this bright color is sure to evoke a feeling of joy every time you look at it. Here are our tips for using this color throughout your outdoor living space.
About Viva Magenta
Pantone’s Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman, describes the Pantone 2023 Color of the Year as vibrating “with vim and vigor.” It was selected for its ability to be powerful and empowering. While it might not be readily apparent, the hue is rooted in nature – think of brightly hued beetles, hibiscus petals and the juxtaposition of double rainbows. Although some purists claim that magenta as a color doesn’t really exist since it is not located on the visible spectrum. We will leave that debate to the experts but encourage you to enjoy this year’s standout hue as a “boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement” perfect for anyone with a “verve for life and rebellious spirit.”
The KOR Cushion Lounge Chair for two with shade pictured above is an excellent example of an outdoor seating piece that gets a visual upgrade from an electrifying shade similar to Pantone’s Viva Magenta.
Further Color Trends for 2023
In addition to the audacious brightness of Viva Magenta, color trends that will take us through the year of 2023 include rich, saturated hues. Magenta’s next of kin is red; look for it in a deep shade of lacquer that makes such things as a front door really stand out from the crowd. For a similar color that isn’t quite so flashy, this Terrace Cushion Café Chair set hits just the right notes.
Benjamin Moore 2023 Color of the Year: Raspberry Blush
Another red tone that incorporates a tinge of orange is Benjamin Moore’s 2023 Color of the Year: Raspberry Blush. While this shade relies more on the orange end of the color spectrum, it is just as exciting as Viva Magenta and may be a bit easier to work with, from a design standpoint. You may want to keep up with this trend by adding a few pieces to your backyard oasis such as these Radius Barstools with seat pads in a color reminiscent of Raspberry Blush.
Colors Inspired by Nature
In keeping with the trend in recent years of tying our surroundings and belongings back to nature, look for browns and greens to bring the bright red and purple tones back down to earth. These neutrals are a natural match, as shown in the outdoor sofa pictured above – an HDHP woven frame with crisp green upholstery and an orange accent pillow.
Although we wouldn’t expect homeowners to completely redesign their outdoor space to match every yearly trend, there are simple ways to incorporate the Pantone 2023 Color of the Year or the Benjamin Moore 2023 Color of the Year. Toss pillows, re-upholstered cushions, and even a serving tray with napkins, as pictured above, are subtle ways to update the looks of your outdoor space with these vibrant new colors.
